Pros: works well, tastes good
Cons: never know exactly how long it will take to start working
My daughter has had stomach issues of one form or another since she was little. However recently the medicine her doctor switched her to has started an all new problem that I wanted nipped in the bud as soon as possible. When I told my daughters doctor that she has been constipated he recommended Fletcher's Laxative For Kids.
Fletcher's Laxative For Kids comes in a 2.5 oz. clear glass bottle. The liquid is a dark brown color that resembles soda which is ironic since it is root beer flavored. This does truly taste like root beer so I advise making sure that you keep this out of reach of younger children since there is no child proof lid on it. This is fairly inexpensive at around $3.50 for the bottle.
Fletcher's Laxative for kids can be used on children ages 2-15 years of age. Children 2-5 take 1 to 2 tsp. once or twice a day as needed. Children 6-15 take 2 to 3 tsp. once or twice a day as needed. Make sure to shake this well before giving.
Fletcher's Laxative for kids is made for occasional irregularity and will generally start working in 6-12 hours. When my daughter started complaining about being unable to go I gave her the minimum dosage the bottle stated. I did not know how it was going to work on her and I did not want her going through more discomfort than she already was. The first time she took this it took eight hours for it to work. She did have a bit of cramping before she had the bowel movement, but she said that it was not to bad and that it was just mild cramping.
The second time my daughter used this it only took a couple of hours to take affect. She has not had any problems with bad cramping or going from the extreme of constipated to diarrhea. This has worked well for us and my daughter does not complain about the taste which are both reasons why I will keep it around our house from now on.
