| cll8857's Full Review: Floam |
I do daycare and my kids were begging me to buy this to use when we do arts and crafts. The kids who would use this range from 3-7 years. The floam has a age guideline for 5 and over but with supervision I did not find this to be a problem with the 3(almost 4 year olds). I checked out Target just by chance that they carried this product and low and behold they had it!!! I was all excited to show the kids what I had for them. I bought a few containers to try it at a cost of about $7.00 each. The containers are very small and I was thinking how many of these things do you need to do the projects they show on the commercial?! Of course when the kids saw the floam they were ecstatic. We lined the table with wax paper, got out our playdoh molds about 200 hundred of them and we started. Well first of all it says mix the floam before you start using it, well that was a chore in itself, this stuff just does not mix and mash together. The consistency of it is tiny little foam balls mixed with some gooey stuff. The smell is awful, imagine, fish that has gone bad. Well the kids were still excited and we start taking the floam and putting in the molds. Not to bad except that when you try taking the mold out of the plastic form it falls apart. By the end of this "fun" experience, we had neon pink floam everywhere, it was in there hair all over their clothes, just everywhere, thousands of little balls clinging to everything. They were not having fun for long. It took me 40 minutes to clean their play table and their area up and a week later, after vacuuming (and I have a Dyson animal vacuum, which is another review) everyday I am still finding floam balls. I opened up a plastic bag of the molds we used so they could use them with their playdoh and the stink was so bad I gagged. On some of the molds those little pink balls were still clinging on. I dumped all the molds into a sink of hot water with detergent and had to use a toothpick to clean them from the molds. This is by far the WORSE STUFF I have ever bought. I gave the floam that we didn't open to the 6 & 7 year old kids to take home, they were so excited to get this, well needless to say, they did not like it, they complained of the smell, the floam doesn't stick to anything, if you can manage to mold it to something pieces of it break off. SHAME ON Nickelodeon for being associated with this product.
