Pros: A neat idea, but the product doesn't meet expectations.
Cons: Takes too much effort to get the product into a usable state.
The Bottom Line: Save your money. Until the formulation is improved, this will probably only frustrate your child.

| jwpearce's Full Review: Floam |
We saw the Floam commercials on TV but had not succumbed. However, my son's grandmother brought him a tub of blue Floam on her last visit. The good news is that it can now be bought at large retailers in a single package, so it requires a smaller investment to learn that Floam isn't very exciting.
In concept, it seemed like it would be fun. My 5-1/2 year old eagerly opened his Floam and got an empty tin can, his intentions were to make a pencil holder. An adult might have accomplished this with a fair bit of patience. My son is quite patient for his age and still lost interest long before his project became reality.
The problem we found was the Floam needs to be worked extensively before it's ready to apply. Unlike Play-Doh and similar products, it doesn't come out very cohesively. It came out in chunks. After working it through your hands, you could get it to a pliable state. Unfortunately, this took a lot of work and you could only work with so much of it at one time.
Had my son had an army of adults willing to sit nearby and prep Floam for him, it might have been successful. He, however, lacked the extreme patience required to get each handful into a workable condition and then apply it to his project. He became bored and frustrated, and returned the Floam to its container where it remains a week later.
If you have a truly artistic, motivated and patient child this may be of some interest. I think the concept may be a good one, but the product is not ready for prime time. A more cohesive, pliable product would perhaps be worth purchasing. This current version of Floam is not.
