Pros: great taste, lots of calcium and potassium
Orange juice has been a staple in my home for my entire life, in one form or another. Childhood causes me to remember juices like Sunny D; my teenage years cause me to remember fresh squeezed orange juice from the crates of oranges my parents would buy. And now, as an adult, I like to have my O.J. every morning and almost constantly if I have taken ill.
I first started drinking Florida's Natural Home Squeezed Style Orange Juice in the last year or so, having switched over from Tropicana. It was at a cheaper price and I figured "Orange juice is orange juice, when it comes to top brands" so, I purchased a carton. To be honest, it was only a very thin difference in taste, to me, than the Tropicana variety I usually bought. Florida's Natural had only the slightest advantage of a more fresh squeezed orange taste. To me, this was well enough, because as I said, it was less expensive at my grocer.
I am not normally a consumer of orange juice that has pulp, I prefer it without. But, the majority tends to rule in my household, and they all favor it. And so, this is what we buy. The pulp in this orange juice is really thick, almost the same as other brands that offer extra pulp. This would probably go well in several recipes (I can see it in a cake, myself) and would probably do really well with an orange chicken dish. For drinking, it's quite similar to fresh squeezed orange juice, and aren't wrong in their claim of the title ("Home Squeezed Orange Style") So, you get the same taste, but with no messy work involved. Just shake the carton, open it up, and pour. Then, enjoy!
Orange juice is an excellent source of calcium which is pretty essential to women over 25, and it is loaded in Vitamin C which is a natural antioxident. It's great for breakfast, if you don't already incorporate oranges in your meal . (We sometimes eat sliced oranges with breakfast, so this is what I refer to) But, it's also great for drinking. We have used it to make an orange cream homemade ice cream, and the pulp in it worked out quite well, and gave it lots of tiny little extra orange flavor.
The ingredients in Florida's Natural Home Squeezed Style Orange Juice is as follows:
Water, Orange Juice Concentrate , Tri Calcium Phosphate, Xanthum Gum, and Calcium Lactate
I don't know if this juice's carton says "Not from concentrate" on it, but a lot of them do and looking at the ingredients, it lists "Orange Juice concentrate". Noticed that as well?
The nutritional panel lists the following per serving:
Potassium 420 g
Carbs 26 g
Protein 1 g
Calcium 30% (RDV)
Vitamin C 100%
Sugars 22 g
Florida's Natural Orange Juice is one that I would rank up there in the top three as far as orange juice brands. This certain variety does what it says; tastes fresh and has loads of pulp. And, it's quite a consistent part of my diet. I would recommend it to anyone who loves Orange Juice.
