I probably won't be able to hit all of the specific points that epinions suggests that I do when writing my opinion. I also will not be as eloquent as Teykaerts. I will try, though, to get across to you how much I enjoy this beer.
I have always LOVED beer. As a little girl (we're talking young. . .I think I started enjoying beer at about 4 years of age) my parents were forced to give me tiny glasses of beer (a few swallows worth) whenever we had company. Otherwise, no beer was safe. I would sneak up and take a drink. . .it didn't matter who the beer belonged to. Back then, I think my parents drank Bud Light. I didn't know better yet, so you can't blame me.
In my early 20's I was still drinking Coors Light, but as my interest in sports grew and I spent more time hanging out with the guys I was introduced to other types of beers.
I graduated to Bass, then New Castle, then went back to Bass because New Castle is too sweet. I started drinking Guinness in the winter, and then found John Courage which was my beer of choice for some time. Then, about two Halloweens ago, I went to a party dressed as a backpacker. Consequently, everyone wanted to store their beer in my backpack. . .I think you can guess what the carrying charge was. That is when I first tried Flying Dog Doggie Style and I fell in love.
I have since converted many of my friends. It has a taste that isn't too heavy for the female friends I go out with, and it isn't too weak for the guys. I can't pick the flavors out of a beer, I can only say that, to me, it has a rich, smooth taste. I could probably give a better description if I had one here to pop open, but unfortunately Lucky's was out.
I live in Southern California, and you can find it in a lot of our grocery stores, and at Jersey's Pizza if you are familiar with it.
As far as what foods go with this beer, I imagine just about any. Pizza is certainly a good one, but pizza goes with most beer.
Just give it a try. I know you'll love it.
