Heated Floor Mat:
I work at a computer all day, sitting at a desk. They tend to keep the office way too chilly, in both the summer and the winter, and my feet are somewhat cold-natured anyway.
I put this foot-warmer under my desk, and haven't turned it off in the ~2 years since then - it's great!
It's just a carpeted mat, with an on/off switch (although, like I said, I leave it "on" 24/7). It feels about the temperature of an electric blanket on medium, and is just enough heat to keep your feet the perfect temperature. And, if your feet are warm, then the rest of your body tends to feel warm & happy too :)
After 2+ years of being turned on continuously, the carpet fibers have only recently started to come apart (I think the "glue" that was holding them together finally gave up it's hold). The mat still works, but there are a couple of spots in the middle now where there is no carpet fiber, and the metal(?) mat below the carpet is showing through.
I'm thinking to "retire" this mat to occasional home-use, and buy a new/fresh mat to use at work.
You can order these from several different websites - $69.95 seems to be pretty much the standard price (I ordered mine directly from the factory, but that doesn't seem to make any difference in the price). It seems a little high, but I guess it's about the price of a decent electric blanket (and like I said, I like it enough that I'm planning to buy another one ... so I guess I feel like it's well worth the price :)
And, since not all the websites show the specs, I thought I'd include them in the review...
Size: 18"x19"x.5" Electric: 115 Volt AC, 75 Watts, .6 amps Temperature: 110 degrees Warranty: 1-year
On/off switch, built-in thermostat, safer than space heaters, 6-ft cord, costs "pennies a day" to use.
Hope this info helps! (This is one of the few "gadgets" I've owned that has improved my "quality of life" :)
I have bought 4 of these over the years, so that says a *lot* about my opinion of this product :)
I gave my oldest one (the one with the worn out carpet) to a friend that lives in Pennsylvania, and it is now one of his favorite/prize possessions (even with the old worn out carpet)! He's been using it for a couple years now, even with the worn out carpet!
