I was babysitting this weekend for a friend with a sick little girl (now all better, thank G-d.) Because this child has had convulsions related to high fevers, her parents are very serious when it comes to monitoring her temperature. In the past, to take her temperature required waking her up. I don't know about you, but when I'm well I don't like having my sleep interupted. Now imagine you are sick and three years old. Not a pretty sight.
The forehead fever thermometer, however, let me let her sleep while I checked to see how she was doing. On the plus side, as long as the temperature stayed down, I didn't have to wake her. Had her temperature spiked, I would have had to wake her to get a more accurate reading with another variety of thermometer. (I didn't have to do that this time.)
Her mommy was also happy to report that her little girl likes to take her own temperature and watch it go up in the mirror. She does this sometimes when she is well. Mommy has added one of these thermometers to her daughter's toy first aid kit. When she is sick, therefore, she is much more willing to have her temperature taken.
I also like the fact that this thermometer isn't glass. There is no chance it will break. I don't have to fight to keep it under a tongue, in an armpit or anyplace else.
My absolute favorite thermometer is still the electric ear thermometer, but I this one runs a close second. It is small, easy to pack and carry in my purse. (I now keep one there just in case....why not, it's cheap and small and won't break.)
I give a big thumbs up to this thermometer. It's hot stuff.
