| Debbietipton's Full Review: Fougera Vitamin A & D Ointment |
After having seven children, A&D ointment is something that has a permanent place on our shelves. There are so many uses, that even as the children out grew their diapers, they never outgrew the need for the A&D.
As I stated, there is more than one use for this wonderful cream. So lets talk about what they are.
Babies:
A&D ointment is wonderful to use to help prevent diaper rash. I would always apply a thin coat to the babies clean bottoms. I would make sure to do this at every diaper change and I never had a problem with them getting diaper rash.
Occasionally there will be the child who has trouble with dry and flaking skin (or something called cradle cap). A&D is also great for this. You will need to just apply a generous amount and the massage it in gently until it is all absorbed. I found this to be much more affective and much less greasy than the baby oil that I was always told about.
Children:
If your children are anything like mine, they are always staying out in the sun to long. This is something that I always carry with me, so I can just rub some of this on then and it brings them some quick relief.
A&D ointment is also wonderful for your older child's dry elbows, knees, and feet. My older son is on his feet so much that sometimes they actually crack. We just put a very generous amount on the cracked areas. He then wears a pair of socks to bed and by morning the cracks are gone and he is feeling much better.
I have also found through trial and error that the A&D ointment is a wonderful thing to use around my sons g-tube site. This is a source of constant struggle for us. While he is being feed there is always some overflow and leakage around the site. This can cause both infection and irritation. Each night before bed, we clean the site, put some A&D ointment around it, and then cover it with a bandage. At each doctors check and at all hospital stays I get asked how I keep his site looking so good.
Adults:
My husband and I use this product in much the same way as our children do. We use it on all of our dry area's and also for any sunburns or minor scrapes. The thing that I have recently found it to be very useful for is those puffy morning eyes that seem to be coming more and more frequent with each passing day. I simply put a small amount under each eye and rub in gently and within a matter of minutes the puffiness has disappeared.
* Because of all the comments that I have received because of the fact that I use this under my eyes, I am going to clarify that I did talk to my Dermatologist first and he thought that it would be fine as long as I did not get any in my eyes. I should have probably mentioned that after five to ten minutes I do wash it off all though he did not say that it was needed.
Now that we have talked about some of the things that I use this product for, I would like to mention the all important ingredients.
Water
Steric Acid
Mineral Oil
Cetyl Alcohol
Glyceryl Stearate ES
Triethanonlamine
Corn oil
Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A Palinate)
Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D)
Cocoa Butter
Titanium Proplyparaben
Diazolidryl Urea
DMDM Hydantoin
Fragrance
Now, I am not sure what may of these ingredients are, but they do not seem to affect my children in any negative way and I think I have some of the most sensitive skinned children that ever lived.
