| caconti's Full Review: Four Points by Sheraton Chicago O'Hare Airport |
*The Pain of Remembrance*
I am confronted by regret every time I arrive into the packed, poorly designed and foreboding parking lot. "Why did I book myself into this place again?"
I have found myself at the Four Points Sheraton Chicago O'Hare Airport at least 12 times over the last three years, and I always find myself confronted by that same reaction.
As you might know, Four Points is the low-end branch of the Starwood family (W, Westin, Sheraton), and this particular Four Points is a shriveled bud on that branch.
That fact is evident in the parking lot, in the grim and unfriendly desk staff, and most importantly in the rooms themselves...
*The Room*
Darkly lit, with nondescript furniture and a generally shabby feeling, the room is not welcoming. Electric plugs are inconveniently placed and the television had only a few channels and those came in pretty hazy.
The all-important bed was not up to Starwood snuff, and I noted a number of stains on the comforter that did not leave me personally comforted.
*Amenities*
A good way to tell that you're in trouble amenities-wise is when you walk into a room and they don't even have the usual hotel guidebook. Great.
This hotel's idea of great guest experiences seemed to be the mini-fridge, coffee pot and microwave shoved into the corner near the bed, with a couple of bags of popcorn on offer.
The rooms are supposed to have free Wi-Fi, but I could never make it work (I never have problems at other properties).
*The Bathroom*
This is where things go from "blah" to "ugh". The toliet was pulled out from the wall, and when I bumped into the the top slid off. I am not a plumber, and I am not fixing a toilet while on business travel.
The tub was yellowing with neglect, the sliding door was cracked and the hot water was a nightmare to manage.
*Why Stay Here?*
The reasons I still stay at this Four Points even giving my poor experiences are twofold; location and cost.
Less than 5 miles away from O'Hare airport, the hotel is a quick and easy drive when you're coming in from a late flight and can only think of one thing, sleep. Additionally, it is convenient to major highways and to plenty of corporate offices in the area that business travellers are likely to visit (United Airlines, Chamberlain Group, R.R. Donnelley, etc).
As for cost, this Four Points is consistently priced under $150 a night, which is very reasonable for anywhere in the Chicago area unless you are willing to compromise on personal safety. Very expense account friendly.
