A quiet oasis
Written: Jul 12 '02 (Updated Jun 12 '03)
Pros:Lovely tranquil hotel, good service, great patio dining, no casino
Cons:the price, no casino
The Bottom Line: If you want a top drawer experience in Vegas, the Four Seasons will do it for you. Take the people-mover to the casinos, return to your quiet oasis.
The Four Seasons is a great place to get away from the dinging and clanging of the casinos. At the far end of the strip, the Four Seasons occupies a few top floors of the Mandalay Bay hotel. But, you get the best of both worlds.
At the Four Seasons, you will have access to Mandalay's great pool. The Four Seasons' pool is a small affair, and unless you are there at a slow time, it is too crowded to be enjoyable. And, it is just your standard hotel pool.
One restaurant, The Verandah, is great for breakfast but not a standout. The patio is terrific--the misters keep the air cool in hot weather, and you're surrounded by palms and birds. The specialty juices in the morning are excellent, though we found the host staff a bit inexperienced. There is also Charlie Palmer Steak, another restaurant, though I haven't eaten there.
There are 424 guest rooms (86 suites). The rooms are solid; clean, well-kept, elegant, and not overdone. There are no 'gimmicks,' like the Egyptian decor at the Luxor next door. The rooms won't make your eyes pop.
The hotel does have a full spa, though again, I haven't used those amenities so I can't judge them.
But, if you get a good deal (not typical), or can afford it, the Four Seasons is worth your sanity. This is considered one of the premiere hotels in Vegas, and the price, alas, reflects that.
