| modernmarvel's Full Review: Francis' Ladybug Boogie - California Adventure |
My kids really like a Bug's Land in Disney's California Adventure park. The theming is really great, probably the best I have seen anywhere. Since we always manage to visit this part of the park, we have been on this ride several times. Francis' Ladybug Boogie is the Disney version of a basic teacup ride. The best part is the clever theming. However, this is your basic teacup ride that you could find in carnivals anywhere.
THE RIDE
Francis' Ladybug Boogie is a teacup ride just like the traditional ones you find in many parks and carnivals. The Disney twist is only in the clever theming. The teacup cars are designed to look like Francis from the movie A Bug's Life. The ride takes place in a fenced in area with no roof. The main decoration is a giant 45 record at the edge of the ride. The good part is that parents can watch the entire ride over the fence. This is great for keeping an eye on little ones and also for taking some cute photos.
My kids liked the ride but I was a little disappointed in the predictable experience. Basically, you enter the teacup car and close the doors. The cars are on two circular tracks and spin first around one and then around the other. The ride is not a kiddie ride in the sense that it goes really slow. You do go quite fast in this ride and it does last long enough to spin you through the cycle several times.
LOCATION
Francis' Ladybug Boogie is located in A Bug's Land. This area has one of the best theming jobs I have ever seen. It is based on the Disney / Pixar movie "A Bug's Life." The detail is amazing and you will find something cute or clever in every corner. Even the foliage and landscaping are designed to make guests feel as small as bugs. Benches are designed to look like they were made out of popscicle sticks - lights are made of gigantic drinking straws and fireflies. All of the rides and attractions in this area are designed for children (although I saw a lot of adults on them). Even if you don't have small children, take a walk through to check it out.
THE WAIT
The waiting area is nothing special. Basically, you line up in an area that has the general theming of A Bug's Land. There is no roof but a lot of shade. There is no place to sit.
FINAL RECOMMENDATION
I thought this ride was just okay but the kids really liked it. The best part was the clever theming. If you took that away, it would be a basic carnival ride you could do anywhere although the wait would probably be shorter.
