nikefreak's Full Review: Frank's Original Red - Hot Hot Sauce 12oz
Ya know, there is things in life that you just can't life without and this sauce is one of them in my life. It's a very basic food staple, but I absolutely love it. It's funny because I never bought this stuff until my roommate back in college introduced it to me. I always went for the chunky-type of sauces and salsas to spice things up, but this sauce is more versatile than that.
It's made of a simple base of aged cayenne red peppers, vinegar, water, salt, and garlic powder. That's it; five simple ingredients. I love splashing it into my mac and cheese, loading it in my chili, layering it over scrambled eggs, putting into clam chowder, using it as a dip for my pizza crusts, sparking into taco and burger meat, and of course, making hot wings for what it is famous for. Apparently, this sauce was used to create the original Buffalo wings in, where else, Buffalo, New York. It's very simple to make. Chicken wing pieces, butter, and this sauce. Can't get any easier than that.
Of the main reasons why I like this sauce is, as it declares on the label, the perfect blend of flavor and heat. A lot of hot sauces nowadays just try to overwhelm your tongue with a blast of heat, but with no flavor to it. It's become vogue to be macho and see how many of your taste buds you can lose, but I see absolutely no point to that. I want some flavor to my hot sauce, thank you very much. Plus, its texture is much thicker than Tabasco sauce, which is always way too vinegar-tasting and salty for me. It's about the consistency of a bit-runnier tomato paste which is nice because it's not too runny, neither too thick. Don't get me wrong though, there is definitely some good heat to it, because it can't be called hot sauce without some heat to it right? It's just not overwhelmingly so.
Well, that's basically it. I can't really think of anything to expound on, other than you can get it in the 12 and 23-ounce bottles, although if there was a bigger one, you can be sure that I would buy that one, since, as my title, suggests, I run through it like a horny 18 year-old goes through one-dollar bills at a strip club. And yes, I have definitely done those fun shots of this sauce before, I got through seven shots before my stomach exploded. Haha, I think everyone should try it like that! Good eating!
