Pros: Price, very little dust.
Cons: Tracks too much on my carpet, does not control odors, leaves apt stinky.
The Bottom Line: It works for the first day or two. Then buyer beware, you soon will have a stinky house, get your nose plus ready.

When I got my 2 cats, Ariel and Dalton from the Humane Society back in September, I picked up Fresh Scent Fresh Step Regular in the 14 lb. bag for $4.99 on sale. I usually buy clumping litter, but after buying the 2 cats, and all the other necessities, I only had enough for a cheaper litter. My dad went out and bought me a few more bags of Fresh Scent Fresh Step Regular, to help out. Never again will I buy Fresh Scent Fresh Step Regular.
The minute I brought my 2 fur friends home, I set up their litter box. The 14 lb. bag is easy to open and easy to lift and pour. At first when I poured the Fresh Scent Fresh Step Regular, there was some dust, but nothing that would irritate someones allergies (which I do have). When kitty steps in and covers up their business, you don't have to worry about a big dust cloud hovering around.
What works for some, won't work for others
Fresh Scent Fresh Step Regular claims to to have immediate paw activated freshness with each step your kitty makes. I found this to be somewhat true, for the first day after adding the litter, I had no odor problems and when Ariel or Dalton used the litter box, and covered up their business, it quickly masked the odor before it could stink up the apartment. The second day the odor control was great too, but once the third day came, you could start smelling the urine and feces, more in the room I have the box in. Since I do have two cats, I scoop in the morning and before I go to bed at night.
Fresh Scent Fresh Step Regular also claims to offer superior odor control verses other leading clay litter. Fresh Scent Fresh Step Regular is supposed to be super absorbent, and absorb the source of the odor before it can escape, keeping you with a fresh and clean litter box everyday. Even when I scooped twice a day, I found this wasn't true. On the third day, after scooping the litter box the urine odor was not absorbed and left behind wet and smelly litter.
Fresh Scent Fresh Step Regular has patented odor neutralizers that is supposed to work immediately every time your cat scratches around in the litter to prevent the growth of odor-causing bacteria in the litter before it starts. Like I said above, after 3 or 4 days the litter doesn't smell fresh anymore, and I'm left with a stinky apartment.

Start with a clean, empty litter box and pour in Fresh Step litter to a depth of 2-3 inches. Additional litter is recommended if more than one cat uses the litter box. Regularly remove solid waste between complete litter box changes. Sprinkling additional Fresh Step each time you remove solid waste will help keep the litter box fresh. Dispose of solid waste and used litter in the trash. Empty the entire litter box as needed, usually about once a week.
I do add more then the 2-3 inches, I fill my cats litter box a little less the half full. Because of the problems with odor control, I change the box completely every 3 to 4 days, not a week as stated above.

One good thing about Fresh Scent Fresh Step Regular cat litter is that is made of a rare, high-quality clay that is both super-absorbent and super lightweight. With Fresh Step Clay, you get the same number of uses with 30% less weight. This can be a good thing if the litter worked better, for me it didn't, but everyone is different.
Final thoughts
Fresh Scent Fresh Step Regular is an inexpensive litter, but since I have to change it more often, it gets to be a bit more expensive. I guess I'm used to litter that clumps easily and doesn't leave behind urine odor no matter how often you go without changing the litter completely. It does come in the pretty colors of blue, green and white, unlike the other gray clay litters. I would say this is best for people who own one cat. I have two and it only works good for 2 days.
Fresh Step does have a paw points program, where you can save points off the bags you buy and receive free litter, food, cat carriers, or help homeless cats. The bigger bag you buy, the more points you get. Prizes may vary, as Fresh Step only has the program every once in awhile.
