Pros: Can't think of anything I would consider a plus.
Cons: Cook top does not work well. Oven does not work well. Dud!
I bought a new Frigidaire electric kitchen range when my 1978 stove bit the dust. The old stove was great, and I hated to give it up. But, it was old, and it would not turn off without unplugging it which is obviously a BIG problem.
After about a month without a stove and looking at many models I settled on the Frigidaire FGEF3055K. It had a lot of the bells and whistles that sounded great, and the price was decent at under $800 at Lowe's.
I write about food and cooking, but I don't even enjoy cooking now with this new Frigidaire stove. Frankly, there's very little that I like about it.
The glass top is a bear to keep clean. The black color shows EVERYTHING. This includes little dribbles of salt that stand out like neon specks and dust or just anything. Even if I've not used the stove, I'm cleaning it again. Don't even get me started on fingerprints. Argh.
Anything that spills on the black smooth top is also hard to get off. You can't wipe down the stove top when it's hot, or the glass may crack. You have to wait for the "hotl" light to go off (like a half hour later). Then, anything on there is stuck like glue. I need to now go buy a soft scraper to get the gunk off as scratch pads or abrasive cleaners can't be used on the cook top.
If the cleaning is not bad enough, the settings are wacked on the cook top surface. Foods will boil on a setting of 2 out of 8. Click to low and basically nothing. So, there's no real middle range on heat. Wide open or less than a real simmer. I really don't burn foods, but this Frigidaire stove sure does in a heartbeat.
I can, at least, cook things on top of the stove. The actual oven is a different story.
They put the heating element under metal. This, I think, creates an infrared effect (or similar). The heat is much more intense from the bottom. I have to move the rack way up close to the burner and still often have to use the broil function to brown the tops of baked goods. Trust me. They don't look good when that is how the browning is done. I can hardly stand to make my fabulous cornbread in my new oven, because I have to broil the top, and the bread looks unappealing. Ditto for cookies, cakes and so on. If you love to bake, forget this oven.
They say the heat is even in this oven. Haha. It is not. I have tried broiling toast. I have to turn the pan around, because the back toast browns while the toast at the front of the pan does not. I get more even heat on outdoor grills.
Perhaps the oven in the Frigidaire Electric Range would best be used as a storage area for the pots and pans I'm not using. I'm not using them much, because this is a dreadful stove. Also, they have all these pans that you're not supposed to use on top of the glass like cast iron. Cast iron might scratch the crappy "too hot" cook top surface. Break Southern soul right there how about it?
To top this all off, the solder (weld?) on the fancy half rack (you can take half off to cook something big - like a turkey I suppose - over to one side). Well, one of the metal rods popped loose. I noticed when the casserole dish was sitting all crocked on that rack. Yep. Rod popped loose. Lowe's did switch that out for me, but I hold little hope that these racks will hold up when one came loose in less than six months. The company may make a fortune on replacement racks.
I can't imagine that the cheapest electric range on the floor could be any worse than my new Frididaire stove. Given that the heat on the cook top is wacky and the glass top is hard to keep clean plus can't be used with many of my pots and then the oven that is billed as being even on the heat is not even close to even in any way, I made a horrible investment in this electric kitchen range. I'm an excellent cook, but it's hard to turn out anything decent on the stove top or in the oven. That really stinks. I can't even get decent looking food for photos for my blogs, because this stove won't cook decent.
I absolutely hate my new Frigidaire kicthen range, I do not recommend that anyone buy this stove. It may look and sound great. It's not. Shame on Frigidaire!
