Fringale is located South of Market St. in a small, crowded storefront building. It can be cramped and noisy with tables close together. But it is friendly and there is an energy and appreciation for fine French food that makes it a delightful place to dine. But, this is not the place for an intimate, romantic dinner. This is a French Bistro environment. Reservations are a must. They are often booked for weekends about 3 weeks in advance.
The service is cordial, relaxed but efficient and all the waiters appear to be French. We never felt rushed or treated poorly. We felt like we were back in Paris, at times. Their Pomme Frites (along with Left Bank, Larkspur) come the closest to what is served in France.
The food is outstanding. Again, it reminds us of being in Paris bistro. Some of our outstanding meals have included oxtail for appetizer, Duck Confit, Rack of Lamb, Braised Lamb Shank, and rabbit. Deserts are also outstanding, the Creme Brulee being superlative.
Prices for such fine dining is moderate. The menu is ala carte. Appetizers ranged from $4.50 - $7. Main courses were $12 - $22, with most under $20. We have paid a lot more money for a lot less in quality of ingredients, preparation, service and presentation.
Fringale is a superb value. If you enjoy good French food, you will not be disappointed.
Parking can be a problem during the day. They have no lot. In the evening, the bank across the street is closed and their lot is available for parking.
Enjoy!
