| piglet2061's Full Review: Friskies Senior Cat Food |
My cat Kelly nearly died three years ago. I rushed her into the vets and they kept her for a week at the animal hospital giving her drugs to combat infection and iv's to battle her latest problem, chronic kidney failure. I took her home after a week and she slowly came back to her former self.
The vet told me she could no longer eat regular cat food but would have to have Feline Kd, a rx cat food only found at the veterinarian. I was to give her this food, a half a can in the morning and then some dry Feline Kd at dinner time. I was to give her 150cc of iv fluids twice a week also.
Well, this went on for about two years with no problem. Then it happened, she refused to eat anymore. I didn't think it was a health issue however. I thought she was bored with her food. Feline Kd only comes in one flavor. Imagine eating only one flavor of food for two years!
I took her to the vet and voiced my concerns. She had lost three pounds already and that is not good for a cat in her condition. My vet recommended supplementing the Feline Kd with Friskies Senior. She said that was the only over the counter senior cat food that she would recommend and feel confident about giving Kelly. She told me to just mix a couple of teaspoonfuls of Friskies Senior in with her Feline Kd to flavor it. She told me to try that first and if it didn't work she would have to consider medications. I really didn't want to do that.
Well, I went home and the first thing I did was go to the grocery store. I bought six cans of Friskies Senior in different flavors to try to stimulate my cat's taste buds. I bought pacific salmon, chicken and tuna, lamb with rice, and sliced beef. I brought it home and mixed two teaspoonfuls in with her Feline Kd and sat it down. I hoped and prayed that she would eat. That's exactly what she did! She ate like it was going out of style. She looked up at me as if to say.."why didn't you think of this before?". It was a great feeling. She regained the three pounds that she had lost and is at a steady weight of twelve pounds.
I am very happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone who has an older cat. My Kelly is now eighteen years old! She still needs iv fluids, but only once a week. She is doing great, and the vet is amazed. Her favorite flavor is pacific salmon. Friskies Senior has a lower ash content than regular canned cat food at 3.0% and is also low in crude fat at 2.5%, it fits into the dietary needs of the older cat perfectly.
I always say Friskies Senior helped save my cat's life! I think it can help extend your cat's life too.
