Well to start off, I should tell you that I have fine hair, that is very straight, and not very thick. Its generally a little on the oily side of normal, but in the winter months, it tends to get a little frizzy/puffy after drying. This was not my initial concern, because I was looking for something that would add shine to my hair. I had never tried any of the frizz ease line, because I generally dont have a problem with frizz since my hair has plenty of oil, and is not thick. Here's my account of using John Frieda Frizz-Ease Finishing Creme.

The Packaging: This finishing creme comes in a small 4oz. grey tube, with purple and red labeling, like the other Frizz Ease products. It indicates that this is "Step 5, finish and shine" on the front, but I don't need to do the other 4 steps, whatever they are because I dont have $50 to spend on John Frieda stuff! The tube is a matte grey, and I found it at Walmart with the rest of the haircare products.

The Product: I read the directions (says apply to dry hair, underneath first and then smoothing across the top of your hair), and then flip open the lid. As I squeeze the tube, a thick lotion looking substance goes on my hand, and I can already tell (from the look and from other reviews here) that I won't need much. Since my hair isn't long, I use what I thought was a small amount on my hair. I kind of pulled it underneath, and then used what was remaining on the top of my hair. I noticed after I was finished that I was going to need to wash my hands, because it left them feeling greasy and sticky. The scent is one of a haircare product, which smells a little chemical-ish. It's hard to explain, but I don't like it. Note that the smell does not last however, only for a few seconds as you put it on. Now on to the results.

First Use: I just have to say that I definitely used too much the first time, because by 3 hours later, my hair was looking like I had not had a shower in 12 or 15 hours. It was flat, greasy looking, and starting to separate into chunks on my head. I was like "oh gross" and I took a shower so I could start over as soon as I could that day. This scared me off of the stuff for a while, and I determined I couldn't use it.

After That: Well, when winter came, I figured Id give it another try. This time, I used a spot less than the size of an eraser head on a pencil. I rubbed it in my palm, used it underneath my hair a little, and then on the top. The results I got were pretty nice! The static and frizz were gone, and my hair was left with somewhat of a shine. This developed better in a few minutes, to where I noted my hair was definitely more shiny than normal. After that, I finished with some hair spray, and went about my day. Using this small amount didn't cause my hair to be too greasy, but I really have to be careful. I like this product, and use it nearly every day, whenever I dry my hair to find its a little frizzy or etc. I have had the same bottle for almost a year, and I would say I havent even used a 3rd of it, I use so little at a time.

Quick update: I should note that this product does not provide any qualities of "hold" on your hair, which is one of it's drawbacks, and the reason I rated it as not having any hold quality.

The Issue: I wouldn't recommend this product to someone with oily hair, because it will only make it worse. In addition, the greasy/sticky feel it leaves on your hands is annoying to me, as you actually have to use soap to get it off. Thirdly, I should emphasize this is NOT a solution to the problem, only a coverup til the next time you shower, when you are left with the same results. Overall however, this product is worth using!
