Growing up I remember my mother always had to give our dog "flea dip" baths, which did not seem at all enjoyable.
When my husband and I adopted a puppy from an accidental litter, we tried this stuff from the beginning, and it is the only thing we use. We have yet to notice fleas on our dog, in our apartment, and no flea bites on us! Our dog has also not had any ticks!
When I was in grad. school, I adopted a stray cat and brought her in, rather ignorantly...and ended up with a terrible flea-carpet infestation. I borrowed some Frontline and put some on her and within a day, her fleas were gone. She also no longer had ticks on her. She was really infested, being in Connecticut.
I have never had these animals experience any side effects from this stuff, and I would totally recommend it. It is worth the price! I would recommend monthly applications even though I believe they say it works for 3 (?) months on fleas, because it supposedly lasts 1 for ticks. I would also not rely singly on this to prevent Lyme disease, I would still get the vaccination.
The only negatives I would say are that it is difficult to apply directly to the skin if you have a pet with really thick fur, or one that moves a lot. Also, it can be challenging keeping your dog or puppy from rolling on their back and getting maybe some of it on furniture.
