Pros: Sweet, flavorful, smells wonderful and has no calories!
Cons: With such a small following, I'm always afraid they'll be discontinued!
I love diet cola products. Pepsi, Coke, or store brand, I don't care, I like them all. I drink them all the time - with my meals, or in between, when I want a refreshing pick-me-up. But sometimes I want something more. Something with a little extra sweetness and flavor than a diet cola product provides. That's when I turn to Canfield's Diet Chocolate Fudge Soda.
These cans of soda are sold in six-packs in my local supermarket, for about $2.50. Like other diet sodas, they contain 0 calories, 0g of fat, 0mg of sodium, and absolutely no nutritional value. But I do like that this product is also caffeine-free.
So what is it? It's just carbonated water with color, flavor, and aspartame sweetener.
I've been enjoying this brand of soda for years, and it strikes me as funny, how few of my friends have ever heard of it. Yet when I let them try it, most of them like it. They all say the same thing - "hmmm... it's sweet, and it tastes good, but are you sure it's chocolate?" And they're right, this soda is very sweet, and it does taste good, but I would never associate its flavor with chocolate, let alone "fudge" as in its name. I simply think of it as a sweeter, more flavorful soda than the standard diet cola product. It does, however, have a nice sweet smell that does bring chocolate to mind.
Canfield sodas are bottled by the American Bottling Company, a subsidiary of Cadbury-Schweppes. These are the folks that bottle, among many others, 7-UP, A&W Root Beer, Crush, Diet Rite, and Dr. Pepper. So, even though, it seems that most people have never heard of Canfield's, it's bottled along with many other popular brands. It's odd to me that Canfield's has such a small following. Perhaps it's because they have such a limited product line. These days, my local supermarket only carries the chocolate fudge, but Canfield's also makes a chocolate/cherry flavor and a "Swiss Creme" (vanilla) flavor.
If you like diet cola products, but wish they were a bit sweeter or a bit more flavorful, you might like this product. I'm sure that some will feel that this product is too sweet, but I like it.
