| mssn's Full Review: FUJIFILM FinePix F601 Zoom Digital Camera |
Today the top resolution king of all digicams is the Fuji S2 which uses the same hexagonal super CCD. Its little brother F601 uses the same CCD technology and beats out top 4 MP cameras and matches the resolution of lesser 5MP such as Minolta 7. Look at the resolution charts provided by www.dpreview.com and judge for yourself.
With this digicam you can make sharp 13x19 prints. If you have a printer that can print larger than this, then unlike me, you can probably afford to get the Fuji S2.
For resolution/size, the F601 has no equal today.
The colors are what the reviewers say is more true, but I find less contrasty and vibrant than my excellent Kodak DC4800 (see my review of that classic). To make my prints look attractive, I have to fiddle much more in Photoshop. Many indoor shots although very sharp has muddy colors due to white balance problems.
The menu system on this camera to set f stop and compensatio is tedious and much inferior to my DC4800.
Another great feature is the movie capabilty of this camera where movie length is only limited by memory. Unfortunately, however smartmedia tops out at 128MB which give you 3 min. at VGA or near 9 min. 320x240. If this camera can take a microdrive, you may not need a separate digicam. Well wait 5 years for the F607.
It can also record sound (voice monorual) for up to 272 minutes. Unbelievable for such a size device for near $400.
