Pros: Small, lightweight, easy to use, 6mp, dual media slots
Cons: dual power, polycarbonate body, no rubber on hand grip, no portrait grip
The Bottom Line: It's a good solid camera overall, aside from the body being plastic. I've used it in various conditions and it performed very well.

I find the camera to be very functional. It's very easy to use. For someone that is familiar with digital cameras you can pretty much figure out most of the functions on the camera without even picking up the manual. Except for not having a rubberized grip, I like the way the camera feels in my hand. I find the image quality to be excellent. It would have been nice to see a portrait shutter release. Also the dual power supply leaves little to be desired. There is a way around that though. A Nikon MB-16 can be modified so the S2 uses 8 AA batteries instead of 4 AA's + 2 CR123A batteries. I made this conversion and it works really well. I have read that the new S3 will be refitted to use just 4 AA's to run the whole camera. I think this will be insufficient for battery life. Another good point is the built in flash. Although it is not that powerful, it is good for some fill flash outdoors. It's also good for triggering other strobes so you can work without cords. One more point to make is the fact that you don't get any metering when using non-cpu lenses. Although you can still make exposures using these lenses, you have to guess your exposure.
