I was looking for a notebook that would fully replace my desktop. What I found was this amazing versatile machine:
The Fujitsu C-6581 (summer 2001). Starting with the best feature, the C-6581:
Features:
1)functions as a standalone DVD-player with Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) support, using its optical SP/DIF port and the high-quality S-video port which supports both PAL and NTSC.
2)has a NEW approach in connectivity: 4 USB ports, a IEEE 1394 (firewire/i.link) port and a 4Mbps IrDA infrared port.
3)is available with combo DVD/CD-RW. CDR burning at 8x!
-Stereo line input for recording from stereo sources (e.g. tape deck) and an input for an external microphone! High quality digital audio from the SP/DIF port
Performance:
-This notebook has average performance speedwise.
-Its ATI Rage Mobility P video chipset is full-featured, supports up to 3 display devices simultaneously (LCD/TV/ext VGA). Unfortunately, overlay is not supported. Display quality is perfect.
-The TFT LCD panel has a good contrast and isnt slow as some TFT's can be.
-Unfortunately the maximum memory is limited to 256 MB and only 100 MHz FSB.
-Battery life is good for office use (3.5 hrs)
-This machine is very quiet. The harddisk is hard to hear.
The C-series is available up to 1.13 GHz (all Intel P3) and 15" display size.
