Pros:Versatile, Boutique Quality Trem Unit
The Bottom Line: The Fulltone Supa-Trem Pedal delivers lush full tremolo much like the old vintage amps but better!
I am fickle when it comes to effects pedals. I know what I like but am hesitant to use any of it because of signal chain degradation, except for studio work. If I do utilize any effects I like a true bypass effect and that takes me right to Mike Fuller and Fulltone Products.

Tremolo is an effect that we all grew up with, likely having the effect built into our amps, be it a Silvertone Twin Twelve, Vox Berkley or any the Ampeg Gemini G12 to name some of the ones that introduced me to tremolo in the 60s. It was a time when the Ventures songs you learned quickly turned to Beach Boy Tunes then into the Buffalo Springfield and pedals were very much a part of the landscape. The Fulltone Supa-Trem Pedal takes me back there more so than any other pedal.
Under the Microscope
Like all Fulltone pedals, the Supa-Tremsblack powder coated, bulletproof case construction is built to take road abuse. Measuring 6 x 3.375 it fits handily into most pedal boards. Utilizing a 9 volt battery, I can generally get about 30 days use before changing out the battery, but instead opt for an external power source and leave the x factor out of the equation.
The onboard controls include:
Bypass Switch for on/off functions with full transparency or signal chain degradation
Speed Switch Regulates the doubling or halving the rate the tremolo oscillates. The Speed will always keep perfect time
Hard/Soft Switch Alternates from s a soft tremolo to a switch-like tremolo with harder edged enunciation of the beat.
Rate Knob Pre sets your tremolo rate value
Mix Knob Pans from more guitar to more effect
In addition you can open the pedal up and adjust 2 trimmers that will increase volume or adjust current to the photocell for added flavor.
While I have a Hughes & Kettner Rotosphere, I hate bringing it along to gigs because of the sheer size of it. I instead opt to use the Fulltone Supa-Trem and a little chorus to play some Stevie Ray or Hendrix material on our set list.
I like using the Fulltone Supa-Trem Pedal on the hard setting to accent a closing note flourish and have even used it to loop a percussive melody in the background when playing acoustic. Leds on the Speed & Bypass controls confirm the mode you are in and are easily seen on a darkened stage.
On the Fulltone website, there are claims of tone enhancement when leaving the unit in hard mode with the mix control almost full counter clockwise then setting the unit to soft with resulting tone and volume enhancement; its true.
Okay, there you have it, a tremolo pedal that delivers tremolo better than old school vintage gear; dead quiet operation, wide adjustability tone and volume enhancement, and you are still reading when you should be buying one? I would jump on this one before the parade leaves town!
