Fuzzi Bunz do NOT fit newborns. Don't be a sap like us, trying to be all prepared for the birth of our son with a bunch of new Fuzzi Bunz waiting for him.
We bought them during the 36th week of pregnancy. He arrived on time in the 40th week, 8lbs 2oz. The first week is the icky sticky mecconium--don't want to try to clean that out of a fuzzy bunz, so we used disposables. The 2nd week they were too big for him--the poop and pee both leaked out of the leg opening. We felt this was odd, since he was back up to 8lbs, so they should be fitting.
Well, we're now near the end of week 4 and THEY STILL DON'T FIT.
So, with only a handful of wearings, we're now beyond the 60-day warranty. If we have problems with them--once they start actually fitting our son--too bad for us.
One thing we noticed, though, was that some of the Small sizes seemed huge on him. So I measured them all (we have 14 Small Fuzzi Bunz--I told you we were prepared) and they break into exactly two different sizes.
Smaller Small size:
Top (the side without elastic) width = 9.5"
Bottom width = 17"
Center length = 18"
Bigger Small size:
Top width = 10.5"
Bottom width = 18"
Center length = 18"
Lucky us, we have 7 of each size; so the size differences are not some fluke. That extra half-inch of material surrounding each leg makes a huge difference in fit. Still, even the Smaller Small size doesn't fit him well yet--and he's over 8 1/2 lbs.
Finally, the pocket insert (made in China, not the US) is only 12" long. That's 6" too short!! So depending on where it's placed in the diaper, good luck in making sure the pee or poop actually hit the insert. If they miss, expect a mess.
With a small amount of extra attention from the makers of Fuzzi Bunz, this would be a superior product. As it is, they're going to alienate both their customers and distributers (our distributer told us about numerous problems from the company).
Perhaps they eventually will work after they start fitting better. I just resent being told they would fit right away, when clearly there is no way that could happen. I'm also frustrated by the lack of consistent sizing.
I do like the idea of snaps. We abhore velcro--the stuff shreds everything!
So, calling other pocket diaper makers: Make a pocket diaper with snaps (not velcro), consistent sizing, and inserts that fit, and everyone who likes the idea of Fuzzi Bunz will rush to your product.
