Fuzzi Bunz stay dry cloth diapering system is a unique and effective product. Having tried one over a year ago, I was a bit skeptical about this improved version. I was pleasantly surprised by this updated and refined Fuzzi Bunz, it is soft, versatile and easy to care for. Most importantly, it does what it is supposed to, it keeps your baby dry and comfortable.
What the heck is a Fuzzi Bunz anyway?
A Fuzzi Bunz is a unique polyester fleece “stay dry system” and diaper wrap. Fleece is a wonderfully soft and breathable material that wicks moisture away from the skin. The fleece used in Fuzzi Bunz is a high quality, non-pilling polyester that requires no special care. The product looks like a regular diaper wrap with an adjustable snap closure, but there is a pocket in back that regular fleece covers don’t have. The pocket is what makes the Fuzzi Bunz more than just a fleece diaper cover.
Why does a diaper wrap need a pocket? My baby doesn’t carry stuff in their diaper!
The pocket allows you to insert a prefold diaper folded in thirds to create a stay dry system. The result is a breathable, stay dry AIO (all-in-one) diaper. Wetness goes through the first layer of fleece an is absorbed by the diaper while a layer of breathable, water proof material and an outer layer of fleece prevents leaks. The result is a dry, comfortable baby, even overnight.
So, why do I want one?
The best way to prevent diaper rash is to keep your baby’s bottom dry and to allow air circulation, but unless you let your baby run naked or wake them overnight for changes, this isn’t always easy. Using a Fuzzi Bunz system, especially overnight and other times your baby will be in their diaper for extended periods, is the next best thing.
Using the Fuzzi Bunz as a system is better than a typical AIO (all-in-one) because you can remove the diaper for laundering or add an extra doubler for night time absorbency. If you wish, you can use the Fuzzi Bunz as a cover over your fitted diapers without adding a prefold to the pocket. This will not keep your baby as dry, but adding a fleece liner to the fitted diaper is an option.
“Butt” does it work?
Yes! It works very well. When I received my Fuzzi Bunz I tried it on my daughter before washing it. She was wearing a Snug-To-Fit diaper and the Fuzzi Bunz fit over it well, though it was a bit bulky. I washed it in Bi-O-Kleen once and placed a Gerber Diaper Service Diaper in the pocket. The Fuzzi Bunz fit like most AIO diapers I’ve tried, my toddler said
“Ooooohhhh, soft butt!” and ran off. When I checked her for wetness, her bottom as well as the fleece felt dry, but the prefold inside was wet. So far, so good, but the real test would be overnight.
Normally, I use an absorbent fitted diaper such as a Mother-Ease Popolino with the liner AND a prefold diaper with a cover at bedtime. I decided to use a premium sized Chinese Cotton Prefold and an extra newborn prefold inside the pocket of the Fuzzi Bunz to see if we would wake up to a dry bum and dry sheets. I really doubted that we would as my daughter sleeps a good 10-12 hours at night and is a heavy wetter.
When I woke up, I was fully expecting soaked sheets. The bed was dry...Her nightgown was dry...The outside of the cover was dry and my daughter had a big smile on her face. As I changed her I was shocked to find that not only was her bottom dry, the fleece was barely damp and the prefolds inside were absolutely soaked!
What’s the “bottom line?”
I strongly recommend Fuzzi Bunz for an effective overnight system. If you need an AIO for sitters and daycare, you can easily pack these with prefolds inside for an easy and effective alternative to disposables. On occasions where you might not be able to change your baby as often as you normally would, Fuzzi Bunz will keep your baby from feeling wet and uncomfortable. My daughter seemed cozy in hers, the snaps allowed for a good fit and there was no chafing or rubbing at the back or legs.
Unlike a wool soaker, you can toss your Fuzzi Bunz in with your diapers (but avoid soap, use detergent) and toss them right in the dryer with no worries. While many WAHM diapers and covers have long waiting lists or limited availability, this is not the case at motherofeden.com, home of Fuzzi Bunz. There are even quantity discounts on the products and excellent customer service.
This is an excellent system that is sanitary, affordable and simple to use, Fuzzi Bunz really do perform as promised. Try them for yourself, you too can be pleasantly surprised,
