| fuzzy-logic's Full Review: LG GCE-8160B CD-RW Burner |
My 8x sony drive did its job quite well, but i felt the need for more speed and burnproof. so i set out to find a good 16x drive with burnproof for cheap, and i found the LG 8160B for $68 oem plus shipping. this is an awesome price for such a fast and reliable drive.
The specs:
4/8/12/16x write, a max of 2400kbps
2/4/10x rewrite, a max of 1500kbps
40x read, 6000kbps maximum
110ms access time and 2mb buffer
Super Link-Buffer underrun/overrun protection
I am currently running Win XP professional and have so far had no problems. this drive is fully compatible with nero, never do i use roxio because in my opinion they cannot compare to nero. i also cannot speak for the LG burning software that came with the drive because i have not had the need for it. by now i've burned about 34 cds, varying from VCDS, RAW DAO(for copyright protected CDs), audio, and data, and not one disc has become a decoration for my desktop.
With my old 8x i used to go watch the discovery channel while waiting for a cd to finish, with this drive the absolute longest i've had to wait for a full 700mb file to finish is 5:34. i used to use verify data in nero, which extends the time by about 2 minutes, but its essentially a useless feature of nero unless you have severely important data.
One nice feature on this drive that my old 8x does not have is dual LEDs, one for when the drive is writing, and one for when the drive is reading. this is useful for knowing what stage the drive is in if you do use the verify data feature in nero.
If your looking for a reliable 16x cdrw drive for a good price, i really hope you go for this LG. its fast enough for anybody's needs and will keep your data preserved and protected. and for as low as $68 oem, its a real steal.
