| mmahanna's Full Review: GEORGE FOREMAN Big George Rotisserie GR80S |
Update 12/30/02. There were some things I left out in my review.
1> Ease of cleaning > It is very easy to clean. The front lid comes off and you need only warm up the interior for a minute at the lowest setting and the interior wipes clean with warm soap and water.
2> Longevity > I have now had my George for 2 years and other than the problems with the baskets (which I have since found you can replace with most standard BBQ rotisserie attachments), It has been the most reliable appliance I have purchased. On average it is used 5 times a week sometime to or three times in a day and it has never failed.
-Original-
I bought my Big George when they first came out. My first test was a 13 lb turkey. Although it took about an hour longer than was stated in the booklet it was perfect. I experimented with baking, steaks, fish, breads and I figured out if you upped the cooking temperature 1 notch (400 to 425 etc...) on smaller foods and cooked larger foods at full temperature they cooked pretty close to the suggested time in the booklet. Since I bought the first version I can say that the accessories that came with it were a little flimsy. Both baskets only lasted about 3 months. The newer models also use the geared wheel style spit as opposed to the BBQ style rod. If it weren't for counter space I would buy a new one and eliminate my oven entirely.
The quality of the food you get far outweighs any of the cons of my model and it appears these have been eliminated in the newer machines.
