niceguymike's Full Review: General Electric JES1142SJ Stainless Steel 1100 Wa...
I bought this as a replacement for an existing microwave whose turntable had broken. The cost to replace the turntable was about half the cost of a decent new microwave, so I figured I'd go for it.
The GE JES1142SJ is easily the worst microwave I've ever had the misfortune to buy, and I'll be returning it after only two days of ownership.
The sensors simply don't work unless you happen to use the sizes of product the manufacturer has decided they should be. For example, there's a setting for frozen pizza. If you're heating less than seven ounces of frozen pizza, it will burn up with the setting. I was re-heating a bagel, and, because it was less than 12 ounces (12 OUNCES!), it actually caught on fire. Our entire house smells like smoke because, after using this product three times, two things put in it caught on fire. So, unlike every other microwave I've ever owned, you have to stand there and monitor your food to ensure that it's cooking appropriately.
It looks nice, although the door is set fairly low and cannot be opened if it is close at all to another edge. We had the microwave set in the cabinet opening for the previous micro, and had to place it on top of something else in order to be able to open it (and still had to have it sticking out about an inch). It would probably be OK on a level countertop as long as there was no raised lip in front of it. As a previous reviewer noted, the stainless steel shows smudges very easily, so you'll be wiping it down a lot, but I don't consider that a huge issue.
The real deal-breaker for me is simply that the sensor cooking is unrealistic at best, and dangerous at worst. I can easily see a product coming in at less than anticipated, especially in these times of shrinking product, and then you'll be wasting a lot of food unless you time every single item.
