Pros: quiet, cooks quickly, all stainless design, large capacity
Cons: two button "add a minute" cooking, long-term reliability concerns
i bought this microwave on ebay after reading it was top rated by consumer reports. the unit arrived and didn't work properly (smelled like burning plastic and shut itself off after 20 seconds), but a call to GE had a service tech out to the house in a few days.
the tech said this was a new style of microwave with newer technology, and he was concerned about long-term reliability. after diagnosis, he said new parts would have to be ordered, that they would be shipped to my house, and that he'd have to come back to install them. this seemed odd--why not send the parts to the TECH?--and they wouldn't send the parts to any place but my home (inconvenient, since i'm rarely home during delivery hours). the whole exercise seemed odd: for all the labor (two visits), parts and effort, why not just replace the darn unit?
ANYway, after the second visit, with new parts installed, the microwave is working well. it seems to cook faster than the medium sized kenmore (also a consumer reports top choice) i'd bought earlier. it's nice and quiet (i HATE mechanical noises). it's reasonably attractive in the kitchen, with its stainless top/sides. and there's plenty of room inside to cook whatever you'd want.
one annoyance: pressing "add a minute" on my old panasonic automatically turned the machine on. not on the ge, making start-up a two button ("add a minute," "start") process.
