Didra4760's Full Review: General Electric JGBS23SEMSS (Gas) Stainless Steel...
Purchased the GE XL44 (JGBS23) model range Sept. 2002. I chose this model based on color, price, features, & a Consumer Reports Manufacturer Recommendation.
Features: 4 Sealed Burners/Electronic Ignite 4 Burners, Grates & burner caps (Color: Gray) 2 Double Drip burner pans which sit under the grates (Color: Gray) Clock with Cook Timer Manual Cleaning Completely White Range Full front towel bar (color: white) Broil Function with lower broiler pan
In addition this range also comes with an anti-tip bracket which has to be installed on the range, the 4 bottom legs can be adjusted for leveling purposes. 2 Racks inside the oven are adjustable, broiler & pan are easy to use & clean.
The white range shows dirt and food more readily, but the white surface top and door front are quite easy to maintain.
Being the inside of the oven is manual cleaning, (you have to clean it yourself), I rarely have over spills and have only had to manually clean the inside once.
Even though it was listed as having sealed burners, the fact that it came with drip pans & not just burner grates was more appealing to me.
Most of the range parts remove easily for cleaning. The door front can be removed to clean inside the oven (although I have never had to remove the door to clean inside this oven) Front white knobs made of hard plastic are easy to remove and clean. The drip pans, grates & burner caps are easy to remove, I have found them very difficult to clean & keep clean.
I usually use this range once a day & do not cook fried food, even the smallest of spills from pans are readily noticed on the grates, drip pans & burner caps. I have found that cleaning them while they are still warm removes most of the burned on food, inconvenient & dangerous if still hot.
The silver metal burner piece (where the gas/flame comes out from) also becomes brown and black in color from spills or pan boil overs, and is also difficult to clean.
Instruction manual states to place in a bag with Ammonium to remove burned on food. (Odors from the ammonium will remove the burned on food)
To my surprise a family member of mine recently moved to a new home where the previous owners left the same range, it was five yrs. old. Even though the previous owners left their range behind, it had to be replaced because the burners, grates, drip pans and burner caps were severely rusted.
Having 4 burners the two on the left side put out a max. of 850 BTU, the front right one puts out 1,000 BTU and the back right one I maximum flame output is small, approx. 600 BTU. (used for simmer sauces)
Overall the oven & broiler serve its purpose, the cook top parts are hard to clean & keep clean, the flame output is different for 3 out of the four burners, making one burner almost in usable or not a desirable flame height. The coating on the grates, drip pans and burner caps is not the greatest and easily removed.
Range/Parts under Warranty for 1 yr. not known at this time whether or not it includes grates, drip pans, and other parts of such. (will follow up..)
