My business involves buying and installing lot of appliances every year. Generally, I try to match the appliance for the particular project at hand. Often low cost projects require a little more diligence in choosing the proper appliance that will perform dependably at a higher level than their cost would indicate. In the past I have been pleased with GE appliances because they deliver results that are desired from consumer, which in turn, makes my life a lot easier as well.
Like most items we consume, the price of microwaves have dramatically come down as manufacturers have developed ways to pare down weight improve working components.
I installed the GE JVM1750DM over the counter microwave on a recent project with great results.
The 1000-watt GE JVM1750DM looks much like the newer generation of GE products that have left the stark rectangular design for a softer look with curved lines which I personally don't care for as they take up un-necessary space. Installation is a matter of three screws into your cabinet bottom to secure the top of the unit and a few screws to secure the clip in installation tray that sis secured to the back wall. Once installed the unit simply clips in and is secured by the three top screws. A template is included to position the holes properly, easy. Unlike similar units, installation is a one-man job but a second set of hands will make in experienced installation smoother.
The GE JVM1750DM is loaded with the features that you would expect from any microwave including one touch start functions for popcorn, beverage, reheat and potato. Express time start functions include 1-6 minutes activated by tapping on the appropriate key ion the number pad. Programmable functions include: Time Cook, Defrost, Timer On/Off, Auto Night Light, Delay Start; all of which are commonplace features that we have come to expect from any unit. Convenience features include: Clock
Beeper Select, Power Level, Add 30 Sec., Turntable on/off, Surface Light Am/Pm.
In addition the GE JVM1750DM comes equipped with a top or rear exhaust vent or you can opt to self-vent with the included charcoal filters. I have found the self-vent feature especially helpful when boiling water virtually eliminating vapor buildup on new cabinets.
Operation is almost intuitive with little or no learning curve; most of these features are commonplace. The turntable is smooth and the unit, while not quiet, operates at reasonable noise levels. Only when utilizing the vent, does the unit get a bit loud, to the extent that you may have a hard time listening to a radio or watching a kitchen television set.
Overall, I found the unit performs admirably offering the look of an expensive unit clad in shiny casing. In the sub $300.00 range the GE JVM1750DM gets high marks on value and performance. While there will always be complaints with any appliance, I have purchase and installed over a dozen with no problems to date. However, that said, you have to adjust your expectations to the unit; it is by no means a high end unit but it certainly will deliver results that are commensurate with your expectations after spending hard earned money on this most capable appliance.
