Cons: Lengthy wash time, must load laundry before tub fills.
The Bottom Line: This washer is so easy and so efficient that if you can afford it you should consider nothing else. It's expensive, but totally worth it.
naayem's Full Review: General Electric WPGT9360EPL Top Load Washer
I looked into many washer-dryer combos as my husband agreed to a no-max allowance on my upcoming purchase. My realtor had problems with her Neptune, so I was a bit shy of that one.
I researched many higher end models thoroughly and finally, despite reading several negative reviews on Epinions, I took the plunge. Knowing that the pair are computer board driven and linked with a pc cable, I read the manuals for the washer and dryer both before I ever ran a load of laundry. Fortunately, the manual is very basic, easy to read, and not difficult to understand. It's also not very long. Much of what it contains is common sense, such as mentioning that heavy items should be placed in the bottom of the load, and don't overload the washer.
I read the manual, followed the directions, and found that my laundry comes out clean every time. If you want to use the stain indicator (it recognizes most household stains!!), you must tell the washer; if you want to do a load of heavily soiled laundry, I recommend pre-washing, with a pre-wash liquid; if you want the clothes to have almost no water in them when you put them in the dryer, tell the washer to vigorously spin them!! You can do so many things with the pre-programmed options and even more if you program in your own! It's so easy my husband (never allowed to touch laundry before) can do it! He can select blankets, sheets, lingerie, khakis. . .just to name a few of the preprogrammed wash types.
It does seem to take a little longer to do heavy loads than my old washer, but I can fit so much more laundry in this machine that I simply don't care. It also tells me how many minutes the load will take, which helps me manage my time. I also think that it's getting my clothes cleaner.
The biggest problem I see with the washer is that the tub will not fill while the lid is up--you must load first, then fill. I used to run the water as I put in the laundry, but I can't with this one. I can understand why, though. The washer senses the load size and never overfills. I've never experienced an underfilled load, and this saves a tremendous amount of water from my old washer which I frequently over or underfilled by mistake.
I love that there is no agitator--no more ruined lingerie, no more stretched out t-shirts, no more tangled linens! It seems to be so much gentler on my laundry--I love it!
The manual recommends using a High Efficiency detergent, which I am doing. Both Cheer and Tide make HE detergent, as does Woolite for delicates.
Overall, I highly recommend this washer. As with any new appliance today, if you want to utilize all of the options you're paying for, be sure to read the manual before you use it.
