You Go Girl! (Reply to this comment)

What a fantastic review. It seems that this washer gets rated leaps and bounds better than the center post auger agitatorless Kenmore Oasis and Whirlpool Cabrio, which seem to be plagued with problems

regarding your GE washer's NOISE reassured me that my new (and cheaper) GE washer (model WHDSR316G) is not unusual in that regard. Thanks!

I'm late to the party, but... (Reply to this comment)

Since my DW and I just acquired this model in the last few weeks, I thought I'd toss out a few miscellaneous observations.
I haven't noticed that the Harmony is any louder than the 16-year-old Whirlpool that it replaced. In fact, it's remarkably quiet during the wash and rinse cycles, due to the type of motor it uses. The drain pump is the only thing that uses a conventional motor, and that's what makes some noise. But it doesn't seem any louder than any other washer I've ever heard.
Concerning whites: One good feature of the Harmony is that it waits until about four minutes before the end of the wash cycle before it dispenses the bleach. I've always heard this is the way it's supposed to be done -- bleach deactivates some types of detergent, and waiting until near the end of the wash gives the detergent time to do its thing before the bleach comes in. But most other washers I've seen with bleach dispensers add the bleach as they are filling for the wash.
Tell your mom that if she wants to run the machine through a cleaning cycle, go into "Special Cycles" and select one of the blanket or comforter cycles. These cycles do not use the automatic water level; they always do a max fill.
If you want more detail about how the machine works, buy the DVD that contains the service manual. It contains a lot more information about how the machine works, including things like all the individual things during the wash cycle are supposed to do, and the spin speeds for the various wash action settings. You can find them for around $20 on eBay.

Laughing so hard (Reply to this comment)

I just want to say that I absolutely LOVE your comment on "inter-clothing relationships"! That is a riot! I was so intrigued by that comment...anyways great review. My whirlpool ThinTwin washer/dryer is about to blow...I will heavily consider this machine!
thanks for the laugh, too!

Jen,
Wow tht was very comprehensive and a great review. I'm going to remember this machine whenever we go to get something new. I love you can customize your wash. Let me guess does "Aidens Clothes" contain a prewash? Would on mine. Somedays nothing makes it's way into a toddler's mouth very well. We have lost many a shirt to this.
Also good to see you're back online with a fixed computer. Looking forward to more from you.

My mom has 2 cats and they have yet to show any interest in the washer. She's had it for about 3 years. Even when they're locked in the laundry room (when she has company over that is allergic) they haven't ever climbed in there. (What we do have to watch, is leaving baskets of clean laundry in there. They like the absorbency of the clothes and will use it as a litter box!)
Without the agitator, I could see how a top loader could be as good as a front loader. The agitator is so rough on clothes, I notice a difference between the clothes washed in our washer (top loader with an agitator) and hers.

Thanks for the comment :)
As to the front-loader... That's a great suggestion! However, while my son doesn't have access to the laundry room (litter boxes), I do have three cats who would probably try to make a nest out of my washer. I'm really glad I bought this one because, truthfully, it works as well as a front-loader (with about the same capacity).
Also, about the filter... We're going to install a whole-house filter on the entry point to our home (I hate taking a bath in dingy water), that way we don't have to worry about the shower, dishwasher, faucets and laundry.
Thanks again for reading and commenting!! :)
Have a great day

I've had bras ruined even IN the bag! The hooks get caught on something in the washer and get bent horribly out of shape. It's my own fault I supposed for machine washing "hand wash only" items.
"I really didn't want a front-loading one because I've heard horror stories involving mold and mildew"
My mom and aunt both have front-loaders. They were told by the service men to leave the washer door open after doing a load so that the interior could air-dry. By closing the door (since it seals, unlike a top-loader that has air flow), it stays at the perfect environment for growing mold and mildew (warm and humid). Since doing that, they've had no problems.
The only concern I could see of leaving the door open, is of a child crawling inside and closing the door (or another child closing the door on them), but I don't know many kids that have free access to a laundry room due to the chemicals kept there (and a possible litter box, like at my mom's).
"This is silly but I wish the machine had a water filter because our well water is so dingy!"
My mom had a filter installed on the water intake for the washer. I don't know if that might be an option for you?

I ruined many a bra by washing them without the silly bag...
Is it sad that I love a washing machine? lol

I love the idea of cleaning bras without the bag. I'm so lazy, too. This feature alone is worth every penny!
