Pros: Nice looking machine.
Cons: Hassle to combat mold problems. Too many electrical problems. Very expensive to repair.
I regret purchasing my Whirlpool Duet washing machine for a couple of minor issues and one MAJOR and expensive issue.
My first problem is that I have to leave the machine door open after every use so it can dry out. I also have to use 1 cup of bleach during the wash cycle at least once a week to combat mold/mildew problems.
The machine twists and tangles all of my jeans and some towels so tightly that I have to untwist them before putting them into the dryer.
A more major problem is that my machine has been experiencing electrical problems for the past year and it finally stopped working for good recently. My machine stopped working in mid cycle, displayed error codes F DL and F11 and trapped my wet clothes inside. The door would not unlock even when unplugged. I searched online using the words "Whirlpool Duet F 11" and "Whirlpool Duet F DL" I was shocked to learn that many other consumers have had the same problem and the problem usually starts after only one year of use. I called a repairman and he called Whirlpool directly. The Whirlpool rep said there is no way to test parts to find out what exactly is broken. It will be a matter of trial and error. First I need to replace the door lock and the faulty CCU and this will cost $300 for parts and labor. If this fix doesn't work, I need to purchase the big mother board for another $200+. The problem is the new computer board is not guaranteed /warranted so there is a chance I could get another faulty CCU. This is a possibility since these units seem to be poorly manufactured which caused the problems in the first place.
Needless to say, I regret purchasing the Whirlpool Duet washing machine.
