Pros: Large capacity.
Cons: read below
This product is an inferior product with poor design issues. At this time $1.00 would be too high a cost for this product.
Poor design. Continual problem with mold/mildew/odor issues - both in main wash area, especially the gray seal at front door and in the soap dispenser area. Have followed instructions provided by vendor, only used recommended products, and keep door open when not in use.
Contacted manufacture with concerns and they sent a cleaning product that they have introduced into the market as of 9/07 - AFFRESH. These are tablets that you add to an empty Hot Water Wash Cycle. The product did not take remove the mold/mildew in my machine. This machine is now causing health issues in our family. Whirlpool has now created a new cleaning document that they emailed to me - not part of the original owners manual that recommends ways to remove/prevent odor. Does not discuss mold/mildew issues. I was told that the more frequently you use this machine, the more maintenance it will require. I was told that I should dry the machine daily when done using and leave door open. I should run an empty bleach cycle at least once a week. This is like telling someone that they have to wash/dry their auto every day! CRAZY!!! IT IS A WASHING MACHINE!! My previous washer did not require maintenance and this was never discussed in the sales cycle! Only other suggestion on part of manufacture was to stop using machine until proper service can be performed. They have offered to replace gray seal - part is currently on order.
Google washer name and you will find pages of complaints and concerns. Investigating why there has not been a product recall at this time. Filed complaints with state atty general office, and CPSC. If you already own one and are having issues, please file complaint with CPSC so that they are aware of the depth of this issue.
Another issue I have had with this machine is that it regularly breaks off zippers on fleece jackets/coats. Can not seem to locate cause, yet problem continues. I have attempted to wash products inside out/right side out, in large loads, and independently; zippers have been broken in all cases.
The most recent issue is to find standing water in the washing machine when it is not in use. If I close the door and run the drain cycle the water disappears. A neighbor with the same machine had a similar problem that resulted in a flooded laundry room and basement as it occurred when they were out of town for the weekend. Turn water supply off if you leave home for an extended period of time.
