Let me start out by saying that if your a traditional "top loader" user and you have never used a front loading machine, you almost have to re-train yourself to do laundry. This probably holds double the amount of laundry that the largest conventional top loader holds AND it gets clothes CLEANER and uses LESS water.I found this hard to believe but it really does!
To start out this washer comes with special shipping bolts in the back of it to protect it during shipping. When getting it delivered if you chose to purchase , make sure the delivery man does not take out the shipping bolts until the unit is in the laundry room. This will prevent drum from getting damaged during movement.
This washer uses special HE (high efficiency) detergent but you can use regular detergent in smaller amounts (much smaller) like 2 tablespoons for a large load. Not only will you be using less water, energy. But you will also be using ALOT less bleach, detergent and fabric softener. And this machine spins clothes at 1200 rpm which reduces dry time. And it has a built in water heater which gives you the capability to run a sanitary cycle or do a profile wash. The machine starts off with cool water and slowly heats it as it washes to remove all types of stains
As far as large items. I'm able to get my king sized comforter clean with this machine. Cycles include sanitary, heavy duty, normal casual, whitest whites, and delicates. Cycle times can vary from two hours to 25 minutes. The built in heater is active in the sanitary, heavy duty and whitest whites cycles only.
Another positive note other than all of the pros I mentioned. This machine is so much more gentle on your clothes. Typical agitators tend to wear clothes out more than the person wearing them. And I can't stress how much cleaner your clothes are. I sat in the laundry room floor watching this thing through the entire cycle to see how it worked. It's hard to believe how could my clothes be getting clean but they do.
Note: When washer is not in operation, leave the door opened slightly to let the washer breath. This will prevent any mildew smell you may have read about others having this problem. I also leave the detergent compartment pulled out as well. My Duet smells fresh with no mildew problems
UPDATE! I have now owned the Duet HT 9300 for 1 year with zero problems!
Another UPDATE...June 25, 2006. I started just today getting an error on my Duet flashing F then DL. Now it's working again. I hope this is not the start of some electrical problems. I will post if anything else happens.
Yet another update....July 20, 2006. Well well folks, what your reading about the computer problems in these other reviews are true. I had not experienced them until 14 months of use. I have read pages on message boards of people having this problem with error codes.
I called Whirlpool asking about this and there is no recall which surprises me as so many people are having the same problem and it's around a year after it starts. Of course mine is out of warranty. I love this machine if it would work. I gave it 5 stars in the beginning as you'll notice my earlier review. But until Whirlpool addresses this problem. I would save myself the hassle. I no longer recommend this machine.
Update..3/18/2007
I ended up buying the extended warranty and the machine started throwing error codes again so The repairman put a new circuit board in and all is well. This is a great machine as long as it works. Lets hope for the best.
