walkerpkw's Full Review: Gilmour Group No. 323gt Gt Mtl Adj Pist Nozzle
Well I thought I was buying a high quality item but within just 2 weeks I've discovered a design flaw. The Gilmour products I've purchased in the past have also been lacking in the durability department but felt I had a winner this time. Boy was I mistaken. I've never experienced a product from Gilmour fail so quickly! I decided to purchase this particular model because of its traditional "pistol grip" design and the fact it's constructed from a durable solid aluminum body.
Sure the rubberized coating feels good in your hand and ergonomically correct. The spray pattern is easily adjustable from fan to stream and includes a "constant on" lever like most all pistol grip sprayers should. However just this morning I'm getting ready to water a small brown spot in my lawn and turn on the water. The tip pops off and water is gushing everywhere. I thought it was because the nozzle was left in an "on" position but no. It was due to the fact the aluminum tip was simply glued on.
Have I in some way abused this product, possibly slamming it on the ground a few times to caused this failure? I treat all my gardening equipment with respect, especially those made of plastic. We have a solid metal device here which looks good but don't ever drop it. Gilmour has been around a long time but seriously made a big mistake thinking "glue" will hold 2 metal parts together under 60-70 psi of pressure.
Had I decided to wash my truck the day this "tip" suddenly wanted to become a projectile, it would have more than likely broken a window or caused other damage. Never has a product angered me but this product from Gilmour is a major disappointment. By looking at the tip that popped out I wouldn't even consider fixing it or using some super putty that former pitch man Billy Mays sold. It appears to be a "slip fit" and there is no glue that will adhere these aluminum parts.
If you have one of these Gilmour #323 nozzle sprayers I can only caution you or suggest you return it. The other reason I suggest returning it would be if it suddenly decided to lose its tip if you left your water on. Picture in your mind a loose water hose end spewing and flailing about uncontrollably. Hope this doesn't happen to you. Luckily I had my hands on the Gilmour sprayer when I turned on the water. It's a natural instinct for me anyway.
Where I bought the Gilmour 323, they a great return policy. I got a "no hassle" money back on my credit card purchase from Lowe's. If you want to hear something positive about this nozzle, all I can say it was fun while it lasted and it came to sudden unexpected abrupt end. Hopefully my future purchases on Gilmour products are less unfortunate.
Warranty? Lowes took care of it. ZERO stars. Not recommended.
