Pros: Overall a VERY plush bike, climbs excellent for 4.5" rear travel, & a great deal.
Cons: A little heavy, tires suck, seat sucks, & the paint job just OK
Ok, so i stole the title from Cadillac. but really, that's the best way i can describe the bike. Given that i already owned two bikes, i didn't really NEED the GT. However, my reasoning for making the purchase was b/c of the killer deals you can get on GT's now. Just the components on the bike alone almost added up to what i payed for it. Taking just that fact into consideration, the 2.0 is a great deal.
Ohh, but there is more. I also own a super-light carbon fiber soft-tail and i didn't think i could find anything that could climb better than that could... i was wrong. I don't totally understand how the i-drive works, but it DOES. I have been able to not only climb more obstacles than i ever could before, but also ride for much longer durations. The configuration of the bike w/its riser bar and longer travel shock make it so that you are sitting more upright than most XC bikes. Some dislike this setup. However, with a little time, i've found it to be great... and VERY comfortable. Now, after riding a 4 hour technical trail, i still feel so great and ready to do it again... unlike my soft-tail where i'm a lil' beat. Yes, the i-drive makes the bike heavier, but as far as efficiency goes, i think it makes up the difference, (that, along w/the 4.5" rear travel). The frame seems durable enough, although i have developed a squeak in the main pivot but that may be due to the cold weather i was riding it in. The Psylo SL on the front is quite plush and the quick-adjust is great to make fast adjustments while riding over different terrain.
The only dislikes i have about the bike are:
the tires: they just don't grip that great and they are a BEAST to take off!! So i got rid of em'
the seat: well, i really wouldn't know, i had a spare seat that was much better so i put it on instead... never used the orig. one, but i heard it's not so great.
LX shifters: call me spoiled, but they don't work as great as my other XT's do.
weight: but as i stated above, you don't notice it TOO much
Paint scheme: TEAL? how manly is TEAL? ...well, it's growing on me... but they could have just left it ALL black.
Psylo SL: i have mixed feelings about this fork. yes, it's VERY adjustable and plus, but it also is a bit flexy and you can actually see the flex if you look down as you ride. no problems thus far, but who knows in the future.
To sum up, I have never owned a bike that was so much fun to ride. Even though i love to mtn. bike, having this bike makes me want to ride ALL the time. Having so much travel makes me want to jump any obstacle in my way, and the i-drive makes me want to climb those which i can't jump. This bike easily stole my love.
