User Rating: Excellent
Pros:Charming, variety of interests, Floppy head
Cons:Thick and book doesn't close flat around the bookmark, Appeals to some dogs
The Bottom Line: There are better bookmarks for the serious reader, but the Ganz Plush Page Pal might be a thoughtful gift to inspire beginning readers.
Reading in my family is a favorite pastime; we all devour books (including the dog) and remain fully engaged with the content until our eyes won't remain open or until we've had enough for the day. A good book often means not doing laundry after work or not mowing the yard in the evening. Not long ago a friend gave me a Farm Animal Page Pals Plush Bookmark - it was part of a gift basket. They apparently knew the recipient but it seems our dog will battle me for the plush animal. It seems plush toys are the self-designated property of our pup - she loves plush toys.

In all honesty - it's cute, it's a bookmark that young readers would enjoy having. The head is charming and fully stuffed. The fore paws/feet are also fully stuffed while the torso is flat as if it had a very close encounter with an iron. The rear feet and tail seemed to have met the same fate. The torso is soft, flat, and very flexible while the head holds the bookmark in place and prevents it from slipping through the pages.
That is unless the dog claims it - our blond lab keeps sneaking into the bedroom and carefully slipping the Page Pal out of the book on my nightstand. Page Pals Plush Bookmarks target all types of interests - Ganz has collections of farm animals, zoo animals, and dogs/cats. The farm animals include a pig, dog, cow, pig, and cat. The zoo animals include a giraffe, elephant, tiger, alligator, monkey, lion, and zebra while the dog and cat collection includes a number of dogs and cats in various colors. There is even a Red Dinosaur Page Pal. They all have the same big floppy head and flat torso design.
These whimsical page markers are cute, but they're thick. The book doesn't close flat but it's not so thick it will damage the binding. The head top to tail tip length is close to 12 inches. The torso width varies - from 2 to 2 ½ inches wide.
The Ganz Page Pal bookmark's audience is beginning readers. The Siamese cat, Golden retriever, or sad-eyed cow might be just enough to encourage a child to snuggle with a good book and a plush animal.
My dog would run off this if I'd let her and I've no doubt she'd try to bury it - especially since she knows if I found it she'd never see this again. If she succeeds, the dirty page pal bookmark is surface washable but not machine washable. There are better bookmarks for the serious reader, but this might be a thoughtful gift to inspire beginning readers.
