I had a great afternoon battling evil forces that lurk in my garden. Two years ago, I planted a perennial that someone gave me call a Blue Trumpet Flower, however, I did not realize it would be so invasive. Within one season its small, compact 6" square form had totally taken over a garden space of approx. 10' x 3' nearly choking out the delicate Snow Drops that were being held hostage by this beast. Last Summer, I spent many sweaty hours trying to dig them up with a hand rake and shovel, but their pesky little roots held tight. This Spring, they were poking their heads up once again having multiplied their forces under cover of snow, even exceeding the boundaries of the rock border.
Alas, this Summer, they discovered that this wholesome heroine with her new Garden Claw in hand was a force to be reckoned with. Just a quarter turn of its padded, comfort grip handle and those leaves were trembling as the hardened steel tines ripped through the soil with its unique spiral action. They literally threw up their roots and surrendered.
I tried to save as many hostages as possible, but I'm afraid a few innocent Snow Drop lives were lost in this take-no-prisoners assault. My body was tired, but I was exhilarated.
But seriously, it is a great tool, and it makes weeding a snap - it loosens the soil and you can easily rake or pick the weeds out of the soil, roots and all. If you don't have this tool, add it to your collection now. You may choke at the price, but I've had mine for 4 years and it's as good as the day I bought it.
