My experience with this product

When I moved into my home in May 2007, my front and back yard needed landscaping. There were no bushes or flowers, they were all dug out from the previous owner and they left the stumps all around the yard, the yard was overgrown with grass and the flower beds were just full of weeds. I still have 7 or so stumps to dig up this year.
I saw this at the local Ace hardware store, but I bought a weasel instead, it wasn't loosening the dirt as well, so I went back and bought the Claw. I paid $24.99.
How to use
It is very easy to use. The claw definitely loosens the soil and brings up the weeds. You use it by pushing it into the dirt and use a half twisting motion to loosen and dig up the weeds. You can also use it in the grass to aerate it. For that, you just push it into the grass everywhere.
I did get tired of twisting however, and went back and forth between the Claw and my shovel. I had quite a bit of flower bed space that needed loosening and weeding.
I am not sure how long my yard sat neglected before I moved in. I also had an area around my patio that needed to be taken care of, as I had over 13 stumps from pine type bushes. I used my Claw to start to tear up the grass and weeds along with loosening the soil so I could get to the stumps and make another flowerbed. I used the shovel and my lopper to get the stumps out. The Claw did tear up the grass and loosen the dirt around the stumps as I was digging them out. One thing I did have to do was to pull off the stuff that I was loosening from the Claw spikes, whether it was grass or clumps of dirt. It was no big deal.
My handle started to loosen after a short time and I have to tighten it once in a while. It cleans up easily by hosing it down.
Why did I buy this product
It looked like it would get the job of loosening the dirt and weeds done, which it did.
What I like
I like how it loosens the dirt and brings up the weeds, root and all. It works rather well to loosen the dirt that is hard.
What I hated
I didn't like the twisting motion after a time. I guess for a smaller flower bed, it wouldn't be too bad, I have pre-existing flower beds that were pretty hard packed dirt and full of weeds in both the front and back yard, so it got tiring after a while and I ended up going back and forth with the shovel. It did get the job done satisfactorily though. My dirt is still rather loose and I didn't need to use the Claw this year
