Gargoyles Sunglasses are excellent. We have had multiple pairs in our house, cars, etc. for about 10-15 years. These glasses are more than just cool looking shades. They really provide a few benefits that most sunglasses cannot claim.

The Product

I have the Classics and Classics 85, as does my husband. They offer some fantastic benefits (not that I will have
to use all of them), but just in case:

- If a .22 caliber bullet is fired from 10 feet away (if it hits your lenses), it will not shatter your lenses –the polycarbonate lenses have exceptional impact resistance! (Do not try this at home)

- 210 wrap around design giving you better protection from the front AND sides for great peripheral protection

- Horizontal curvature of 10-base lens and the vertical curvature of a 5-base lens which helps conform the glasses to the average face curvature to give the 210 degrees of protection

- Polycarbonate lenses guard with 100% protection from UVA, UVB and UVC

- These lenses are NATO and ANSI Z87.1 approved, exceeding OSHA requirements for splash and splatter

- Lenses are coated with a NASA derived scratch-resisting, anti-fog coating that they state in their literature that offers 30% more protection than conventional coatings

- Dual Lens Toric Curve ™ is something they have patented zero-prism design – this correct refraction so our eyes do not have to giving you an accurate vision with no need for correcting

- Lifetime Warranty

Do you remember watching ER when it first came out (I cannot speak about it today, as I don’t watch it), but the staff work clear glasses to protect their eyes in the ER – THOSE were clear lens Gargoyles.

Overall Impressions

I truly enjoy these sunglasses. They claim in the paperwork that the glasses are exceptionally light at 1.1 ounces and that you can barely feel them on your face. I couldn’t agree with that statement more!

As mentioned, I have a couple of pair of these sunglasses. I used to have an all purple pair about 10-12 years ago or so, but I ran over the sunglasses with my car. The lenses were fine, but the frames were toast!

You might ask why, if I have had the glasses for so long, do I still have the paperwork. The lifetime warranties! I haven’t had to use the warranty on any of the pairs. (The purple pair was my first, and I did not keep track of paperwork, receipts, etc., and I had NO clue there was a lifetime warranty.)

They have remained pretty consistently priced, even after the Gargoyles brand was bought out by FosterGrant in 2004. Depending on the pair and whether or not they are collector’s editions like the Dale Earnhardt glasses were or the Classics or Classics 85s, they range in price from about $75 to $140. But, they are worth every dime.

I can tell you that wearing these glasses, they feel comfortable and you barely noticed they are there. They do seem to enhance the colors around me, making things seem perfectly clear (unless my daughter has picked them up and left finger smudges on the lenses.). I enjoy wearing them and feel the protection that I get outside from the sun is wonderful. I wear them outdoors and do not notice the sun peaking around the lenses from the sides!

The Classics 85s are purportedly 15% smaller than the Classics, but I personally don’t notice much of a difference, although, that difference made a big difference to my husband. He prefers the Classics, therefore I gave him my Classics and he gave me the Classics 85s and we both feel super comfortable.

These glasses have been seen on the likes of Jimmie Johnson (the car driver), Dale Earnhardt, Sig Hansen (famous crab fishing vessel Northwestern Captain), and Todd Fairbairn the President of Otte, a supplier of tactical clothing and equipment to US Special Operation Units.
