Garmin always leaves something off.

Written: Jan 20 '08
Pros:Feature packed, multi-sport capability.
Cons:"Motion Based" is a complete RIP-OFF. Why no Altimeter?
The Bottom Line: As usual, Garmin leaves at least two important features off every product it sells.

Bought this a month ago and was pretty happy with it, however, as of tonight, it won't power on for some reason(it was just fully charged).

Anyway, it's great for running and biking- but it's I don't know why they didn't put an altimeter on this like they have on the edge.

My biggest disappointment is the software that comes with it is so limited- and when I checked this "Motion Based" website that everyone is raving about, I was totally unimpressed. They charge you 14 bucks a month for what is basically the full version that GARMIN should have provided you with in the first place- what a rip-off.

Another HUGE disappointment is that there is no altimeter on this- I don't know about most users, but when I run, I think my biggest accomplishments are taking the hills. I like to know how much I've climbed and how fast.

Of course, the 305 Edge for bicycles has a fairly accurate altimeter which combines 3D GPS with a barometer, but it is only set for BICYCLES- it has no multisport mode and always assumes you are on a bike, and calculates accordingly.

Once again, a maddening product conundrum where Garmin does not offer everything you need in one product- or in EITHER product for that matter.

Why Garmin couldn't have at least put a 3-D GPS altimeter on this is beyond me. And why they couldn't put multisport capability on the EDGE is also beyond me. It's seems the GARMIN turns out lousy products that snub the consumer, but they just happen to also be the best thing available. Go figure.
