mylwra's Full Review: Garmin GPSMap 60c Handheld GPS Receiver
After exhaustive research, browsing in stores and borrowing from friends, I decided to splurge and spend more than I had planned and purchase the Garmin 60CSx handheld receiver. My primary planned use was to take the kids GeoCaching. A friend allowed me to use his entry level gps while I shopped and using it was revealing. I discovered that in light forest cover, I lost signal very easily. Also, I discovered that the screen resolution was blocky. I anticipated that much of our geocaching would take us into wooded terrain and wanted the experience to be rewarding rather than frustrating. The 60CSx has a high sensitivity chip set that allows navigating in challenging conditions. I have received signals in my house! It is also water resistant and appears to be of durable construction. One of the most pleasing things is the ability to link the gps to my computer via usb and download coordinates directly. I have made errors manually loading coordinates and wound up in the wrong place! The usb cable is non-proprietary (the same one that I use for my camera and mp3 player!). I have quite a few coordinates loaded and it simply takes a click of the mouse. It is very intuitive and even has a few games. It has a lot of interesting functions that include tides, moon phases, hunting/fishing times. Be forewarned, it has the most basic of maps with only the main routes labeled. Any detailed maps have to be purchased separately. It has an SD card slot for additional memory. The only accessory that I have purchased so far is the car power adapter. It seems to be decent on batteries.
Overall, I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend this model.
