This is a remarkable piece of equipment; and like just about everything made by Garmin, it can be trusted.
It is built quite solidly, and is weatherproof, unless you plan on diving with it. The color screen is great, easy to see in most any light. Most importantly, with the new SIRF chip, this high sensitivity receiver will continue to keep you on track accurately under heavy canopy!
Be aware that the included base-map is not very useful; you'll need to spend another 100.00 (or quite a lot less if you know where to look) for Topomap USA 2008 or the city navigator version; and be aware that Garmin units only use Garmin software (maps) unless you do some creative map cracking. Their upgrade maps are pretty decent especially if used in conjunction with real topo maps.
All in all, a great product that can take you way, way out there and back in again.
