I would like to better understand how this unit works well in a 'heavily forested area' when my other experiences indicate that it doesn't work well at all in a city area with older trees (but certainly not heavily forested).

My guess would be that the signal from the GPS constellation is being bounced around in a city between the buildings so when it gets down to your receiver, the signal is either weak, or way off of kilter.

Generally GPS receivers will work in average forested terrain - If you're standing underneath a spruce tree - you probably won't get a good signal - but following a trail through a typical hardwood forest, you shouldn't have any problem.

Hope that helps,
Jeff

Admitting that I am not a GPS expert, I would like to better understand how this unit works well in a 'heavily forested area' when my other experiences indicate that it doesn't work well at all in a city area with older trees (but certainly not heavily forested). Please explain.

enjoyed reading your review on the GPS Receiver. There are so many reviews that fall short on providing solid information on GPS systems

Thanks - I really try to give some background whenever I review something like this, along with enough information so anyone would know what the thing was good for.

Have fun camping this weekend!

I enjoyed reading your review on the GPS Receiver. There are so many reviews that fall short on providing solid information on GPS systems. I've used it before and I like its sleek design, and the fact that it is waterproof. I've got a camping trip planned for this weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks.
