Pros:Touch screen, bluetooth phone link, MP3 player
Cons:Annual updates are pricey!
The Bottom Line: Easy to see wide screen, great phone adaptability, clear text to street directions
I purchased this GPS to replace a dying Quest 2 unit. The Quest 2 took me to the wrong place, got me lost and locked up...not good!
I have owned this unit for a year now, taking it on several thousands of miles across the United States...and never a lost moment. I have the confidence to go anywhere now, get lost and have the Nuvi 660 take me back home.
I picked this unit primarily for the bluetooth phone capability (I dislike driving with a bluetooth ear piece stuck in the side of my face). My vehicle has a 3.5mm audio input lead on the stereo, so the headphone out plugs directly into the vehicle. I can answer phone calls, listen to MP3's and hear all of the GPS directions through my car stereo. For those of you that do not have the input, the Nuvi 660 has a built-in FM transmitter.
The Nuvi 660 can accept SMS text messages (depending on phone capability) and it will read them to you in the GPS unit's voice. It also has customizable vehicle icons and voice accents. I personally like having my vehicle look like a monster truck as I listen to the Australian female's voice!
The touch screen is bright enough to see in almost any situation. I use a soft rag and a couple drops of water to get the fingerprints off occassionally. The Nuvi 660 is a wide screen unit, so it is much easier to see than the 200, 300 or 500 series. It is also thin and allows different mounting options with the capability of adding an external GPS antenna. I have mine flush mounted into the overhead console.
I just hit the one year mark of ownership and the crafty people at Garmin have figured out a way to have the unit remind you that your map data is old and it suggests an update...genious! The updates are half the price of what they use to be (about $70 a year). It is still cheaper than what my vehicle manufacture asks for On Star service!
My final favorite feature is the text-to-street feature. The on board voice actually tells you "In 200 feet, turn left on Main Street" or "In 100 feet, arrive at Bob's". Instead of "In 200 feet turn left" or "Arriving at destination".
