Cons: Don't buy Garmin's GPS products-customer service is horrible phone support is non-existent.
The Bottom Line: Garmin makes it intentionally difficult to get warranty service by forcing you to use their complicated registry service on line. Garmin can't service what they sell anymore.
unclejohn8's Full Review: Garmin nuvi 255W Car GPS Receiver
I currrently own 4 garmin GPS systems. 3 C330's and 1 new Nuvi 255W. In the past, the old Garmin Street Pilots C330's had major design flaws such as a connected power cord that flexed and eventually broke off. They redesigned the system to use removable power cords. Also, their cigarette lighter/power accessory plug was prone to working it's way loose and causing the auto fuses on my car to blow. Again, another redesign. The C330's also had suction cups that fused to the window and left circular rubber circles on the auto window that had to be razor bladed off. To Garmin's credit, they made good on the replacement defective wiring, cups, and power cords with just a letter and multiple phone calls. Fast forward to 2009 I bought the Nuvi 255W and the suction cup stopped working. I called their phone number and the Recording says all the time that the average wait time is 30 minutes. Their website states in order to obtain a replacement cup under warranty, you have to connect your GPS to your computer and their website and register the unit. Only then will they consider a warranty replacement. I spent well over an hour trying to fight all their roadblocks and bad software to try and register. I emailed them and asked if I could register the unit via the US mail. They said no and that I had to hook up my computer to their website. Well I did that and got an email acknowlegement that my registration worked for their mail ordering but not the Owner Registration. This is baloney. They intentionally make it difficult to call them on the phone and obtain warranty service following the internet registration process. After a flurry of emails back and forth with their customer service area, I ordered a much better aftermarket other company flexible gooseneck GPS holder for the Nuvi 255W for $14.95. Shame on you Garmin! My next GPS unit will be from a company that values their customers like you once did years ago
