| xxskagirlxx's Full Review: Garnier Fructis Fortifying Deep Conditioner Sleek ... |
My sister lives over 12 hours away, and the last time we met her hair looked wonderful. Soft, shiny, nary a frizzie in sight. You'd have no idea that she bleaches her brown hair around 9 times a year, and has been doing so for the past seven years.
When I asked her what caused the big change, she gave me a name of a hair mask that was $50. I almost fainted.
Then she let me in on a little secret- when she was out of her super expensive hair mask, she relied on a product called Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine 3 Minute Masque. "It's only $4 for a tub, you should give it a try," she suggested.
I took her suggestion to heart. Although my hair is fine and thin, it's dry from a round of Accutane and my love of red hairdye. I never thought someone with my type of hair would ever need a hair mask, but man was I wrong.

What I Found:
The next time I found myself at a Target I resolved to pick up a tub for myself. What I was unprepared for was the fact that there were two very similar products on the shelf, and I had forgot the exact name my sister gave me. I gave her a call, and she gave me an easy way to remember which tub to get:
Garnier Sleek & Shine has a orange lid.
There's an identical product by Garnier that has a green lid, and also doesn't have Sleek & Shine in the product name.
The tub cost around $4 for 5 oz.
The tub itself is green and round. You screw off the orange cap to get the product out of the tub. I'm not very crazy about the packaging, truthfully. It's often difficult to screw the lid back on while balancing the conditioner in my palm. Not to mention, I'm not sure how hygenic it is constantly re-dipping my fingers into the tub week after week.
The actual masque is white and has a medium thickness. It feels a lot like a conditioner you'd get with a box of hair-dye. It has a fruity smell that smells a lot like peaches. The scent tends to linger throughout the day, but is inoffensive.
I normally shampoo my hair every other day. I apply the masque just once a week, on a day I've shampooed. The instructions specify to first shampoo, then rinse, then apply the masque from roots to tips. The masque should be left on for 3 minutes. Since my hair is past my shoulders, I usually use a pretty large dollop (bigger than a quarter) to cover my entire hair, and then I don't exactly time the 3 minutes. I normally just do other shower things, like shave my legs and exfoliate my feet while I'm waiting for the masque to "set".
Since my hair is very fine and thin, I am a stickler about making sure my hair is rinsed clean, especially when using conditioners. That's the first thing that impressed me about Garnier Sleek & Shine 3 Minute Masque- It actually rinsed pretty clean. My hair didn't feel slimey or slippery or weighed down.
Upon towel drying my hair, my comb always glides right through after using the masque. I then blowdry my hair while using some gel to create volume. Garnier Sleek & Shine 3 Minute Masque does not weigh my hair down at all. I can blow dry my hair as normal and create the same amount of volume and have the same amount of control as any other day.
The only difference is that my hair is insanely shiny and less frizzy after using the masque. That's a good thing!
What's even more notable is that I have no problems wearing my hair up or back on days I use this mask. Normally if a deep conditioner is too heavy, my elastic will just slide right out of my hair. Or, I wouldn't be able to curl my hair with a curling iron and pin it back. Not with Garnier Sleek & Shine. My hair still totally feels normal.
So needless to say, I'm gaga about this product. I'm not the only one, I've read other reviews online (not on epinions.com) where other thin haired beauties were raving about this product, which is how my sister found out about it.
I do try to limit myself to using only once a week, though- I did use it twice in one week and my hair was weighed down.
I still have the original tub that I purchased back in December and it's about half gone. So this is a $4 product that lasts forever!
The Bottom Line:
Is your hair fine/thin and also dry or color damaged? This is the deep conditioner for you. Gives my thin hair shine without weighing it down. Also is great for taming frizzies.
