Pros: Service was great!!!
Cons: Speakers under palms, but I don't use them anyway
The Bottom Line: Although my first 600 was a lemon, because of the customer service I received I would still recomend this machine

I have had a Gateway 600XL for about 4 months now, and while I had a lot of problems with the machine at first the service dept was great about trying to take care of it and eventually replaced the machine.
The first problem I had was that some pixels started burning out on the screen. I called the contracted service provider and they came out that afternoon and replaced the screen. A couple of days later the modem went out (of course this had to happen on a Friday night at 10:00 pm while I was trying to work on a paper.) I picked up an external usb modem to keep working thru the weekend. I contacted the service dept on Monday, they had someone meet me at school to pick up the pc and they returned it to me that afternoon. Unfortunaly it wasn't fixed and they had to take it 2 more times to fix it, however they returned it to me each afternoon so I could continue to use it. Another ongoing problem I had was when trying to use it in my lap the touch pad didn't always want to work. The service dept worked on this each time they had it, and I have decided that this is just a problem with a machine of this size, it works great sitting on a desk but in you lap not so well. They got the modem fixed and a couple of days later the whole machine just quit at which point they swapped my hard drive into a new machine for me.
I have had not problems with the new machine and I take it everywhere.
The extended warranty is well worth the money!!!
